Lower back pain can be subtle, mild and consistent, or consistent and debilitating. There are four major causes for lower back pain.
- Strain within the bony elements of the spine, such as joint inflammation, or disc degeneration
- Pain from the intervertebral disc or cushion, such as with strain or bulging
- Irritation of the nerve
- Strain or tear in the muscles, tendons or ligaments that envelope the spine
Every treatment plan depends upon a correct diagnosis, followed by reduction of inflammation, restoration of proper and preventative mechanics, and strengthening. Physical therapy and pain relievers can help before exploring a surgical alternative.
